of bias, pop star Elton John said."I think religion has always tried to turn hatred toward gay people," John said in the Observer newspaper's Music Monthly Magazine in an interview published Saturday. "Religion promotes the hatred and spite against gays."
"But there are so many people I know who are gay and love their religion," said the singer, who exchanged vows in December in a civil union ceremony with Canada's David Furnish. "From my point of view, I would ban religion completely. Organized religion doesn't seem to work. It turns people into really hateful lemmings, and it's not really compassionate."
John also criticized religious leaders for failing to do anything about conflicts around the world. "Why aren't they having a conclave? Why aren't they coming together?"
John said those in his own field have been similarly lax. "It's like the peace movement in the '60s. Musicians got through to people by getting out there and doing peace concerts, but we don't seem to do them any more," he said. "If John Lennon were alive today, he'd be leading it with a vengeance."
Seriously, this interview is so bizarre and out there that it seems all you can do is laugh at him and shrug it off. Mostly that's all you can do. The scary thing is coming off of Remembrance Day and thinking of those who fought for freedom, we now face left-wing extremists that want to take away the most fundamental human freedom.
No worries, it will never happen. But that doesn't make Elton any more ignorant.

I think it was about a mile off the mark for Elton John. Yes, many religions forbid homosexuality. However, there are countless numbers of congregations of the same religions that are perfectly fine with homosexuality. Just to name a few that I know of- Reform and Reoncsructionist Juadism, Society of Friends, Buhdism, and the UCC. Those, and definitaly more entire sects accept homosexuality. Many individual congregations of all religions accept homosexuality.
However, one thing that Elton did get right, is that many times religion can blindsight people into hating different groups, including homosexuals. People may beleive whatever they want, but as religion has no knowledge base to it, it is supernatural. People must seperate the supernatural from the natural. There is no reason why all homosexuals should be persecuted. Thier relationships are just the same as heterosexual relationships, not all homosexuals are pedophiles.
An entire college class, or even college minor could be constructed around the study of Religion and Hate. It's a very interesting discussion.
It's a popular view in the moonbat universe. The federal Liberals are right there with aging, (and not so gracefully at that) self-titled, "queen mother" Elton John... "Bill Graham and the Fiberals are apparently taking another "principled stand"... this time fighting for the rights of teenage boys."
