A lot More Green for Electricity

The Ontario government's latest plan to discount electricity rates by 10% is barely going to scratch the surface of the rapid increases we'll see in the next 5 years. The Star notes:
Ontarians will be zapped with a 46 per cent increase in home electricity costs over the next five years to pay for much-needed hydro system upgrades, warns the Liberal government. . .

Duncan conceded the Liberals’ green energy policies account for 56 per cent of the skyrocketing prices with expansion of nuclear and natural gas power plants the reason for the remaining 44 per cent.
Extremely generous subsidies for wind and solar power are costing consumers dearly and (interestingly) drawing criticism from environmentalists for turning farmland to concrete. I haven't given the issue much thought, but given the fact that both natural gas and nuclear power have nearly zero greenhouse gas emissions and are substantially cheaper than these renewable sources, it's probably worth having a debate about whether the subsidies for solar and wind power are just too rich.

Especially since the distribution network will be taken up by these cheap contracts with wind and solar power. If the Ontario economy ever recovers, the capacity will no longer be there and the government will have to build new transmission lines.

Also why didn't the Ontario government import more electricity from Quebec. This electricity is mainly green (hydro) and much cheaper. In order to say they have created more jobs in Ontario (dubious given the job destruction that will be caused by high comparative electricty rates, not to mention that contract with Samsung a foreign company), the Liberal government nixed importing more electricity from Hydro Quebec (and left Hydro officials shaking their heads in disbelief).

If consumers were given the freedom to choose who they want to supply their electricity the Green industry would collapse. These "jobs" the Liberals boast about is nothing but Green Welfare. The billions they are wasting on the Green Act could have stayed in consumers' pockets and contributed to the real economy rather than to the delusions of an imbecil.

The spin of "Green" jobs to be created in Ont. is a fantasy world, similar to the fantasy that electricity can be generated without fuel. McGuinty is the only politician still in power who believes wind generated electricity can be produced efficiently and without contributing to C02 emissions.
A recent study compared jobs created by the nuclear industry in Bruce Co. For 45 years, Bruce Nuclear has been the driving force behind highly paid industrial jobs.
A visit to Kincardine quickly demonstrates this. For some reason McGuinty and friends do not consider nuclear to be "green".
In contrast the industrial wind sites in Bruce Co produce night watchman jobs, after initial construction.
